Dr. Franz Monks

Professor dr. FRANZ MONKS is President of ECHA since 1992. He trained as development psychologist at the universities of Munster, Bonn, and Nijmegen. Between 1967 and 1988 he was Professor of Deveopmental Psychology and also chairman of the Department at the University of Nijmegen. From 1988 to the present he has fulfilled the position of Director of the Center for the Study of Giftedness.

Dr. Franz Monks main interests with regard to giftedness lie with development. Education, teacher training in gifted education and policy for the gifted. His main publications consit of the textbook: Develomental Psychology, published in Dutch (11 th edition), German (2 nd edition), Indonesian (10 th edition), in Hungarian (2 nd edition) as well as a second major work: International Handbook of Giftedness and Talent (2 nd edition 2000) in cooperation with Heller, Subotnik and Sternberg.

Professor dr. Monks credit of concern for gifted pupils and people are overall, professional sharp and do not know state borders. His work is oriented to the rising movement for the Gifted in connected Europe.

Professor dr. Monks efforts were on the organisational basis orientated into consolidation of ECHA with the coordination of information, pedagogical, research and conference activities in all European countries, interdisciplinary profiles- teachers, psychologists, parents, consellors and talents.

Professor dr Monks has participated in the process of formation of the Declaration of education of the Gifted, which was accepted by the Council of Europe.

Professor dr. Monks has shown a sensible interest in our Slovene cultural tradition, which is distinguished for shining world examples of geniuses.
